Maximum £2 Single Bus Fares on Nottingham City Transport Buses Begins!

Travelling by bus is now cheaper until the end of March 2023, thanks to a government funded Help for Households initiative.

The maximum single fare for any journey is now £2 across all NCT services, including on routes through to Loughborough, Southwell and Woodborough.

The standard adult City Area single has reduced from £2.50 to £2.00 and customers who usually buy a £4.70 all day ticket and make a return journey can pay just £4.00 per day, by changing to paying for a single ticket on both buses they use in a day.

This promotional fare is available to buy using:

• Contactless on the bus – where customers just tap their card or device on the reader and the fares are deducted automatically at the end of the day
• NCTX Buses app
• Cash – exact fare required
• Robin Hood Pay As You Go cards

In the Outer Area, all Adult and Under 19 single fares that were over £2 have also been capped at the promotional £2 fare and Day Return tickets capped at £4.

David Astill, NCT’s Managing Director said, “NCT already offers some of the lowest bus fares in Britain and we hope that this government funded fares initiative will encourage people to travel by bus, particularly those who haven’t returned since the pandemic”. 

Transport Secretary Mark Harper said: “Buses are a key part of our vision for a clean, efficient and modern transport network that is affordable for everyone. That’s why we’re investing £60 million to encourage everyone to hop on the bus and ‘Get Around for £2’.”

Norman Baker from Campaign for Better Transport, said: “Affordable bus travel really is a win-win. Capping bus fares in this way will help struggling households, cut traffic congestion and carbon emissions, and inject new life into dwindling bus services.”

The £2 price cap only applies to single fares and does not affect the price of any single fare that was lower than £2 or any other tickets, such as day tickets, all Easyrider products and longer term mobile tickets, which remain at their regular prices.
